Conductor Programme Manager
The position will commence on 1.1.2017 or as otherwise agreed.
The position is located within the Sibelius Academy's Faculty of Classical Music, in the Department of Conducting. As the Conductor Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the seasonal planning, budgeting, teaching arrangements and coordination of support services related to Orchestral Conducting, Wind Orchestra Conducting and Choral Conducting training. In addition, you will participate in production and artistic-pedagogical planning together with the respective professor or lecturer.
The Department of Conducting uses practice orchestras and choirs. You will be responsible for the activities of these ensembles and the recruitment of musicians. You will also produce the matinees, concerts and assessments of the Conducting students.
Your duties will also include managing and developing cooperation with international partners, Finnish symphony orchestras, Finnish Defence Forces bands, as well as the other departments and units of the University of the Arts Helsinki. It is an international working environment - a large part of the students and teachers are not from Finland.
You will work under the Head of the Department, responsible for orchestra and chamber music education and conductor training, as part of a team whose other members are the Symphony Orchestra Manager, Chamber Music and Choir Coordinator, as well as two Stage Managers. Tasks are divided amongst the team, therefore your job description may also - e.g. through substitutions - include other team members' tasks.
We require the appropriate candidate to have
-a suitable higher education degree
-knowledge of practices within the field of orchestral and/or choral music and education
-strong fluency in English (Finnish and other language skills are an advantage)
-a flexible attitude, good communication and cooperation skills
-an ability to work independently and showing accountability
-demonstrated skills in planning and organizing as well as the ability to govern resources
-technological proficiency in order to use efficiently the various university information system platforms.
Under the conditions of employment, we adhere to the regulations of the general collective agreement of the universities and the salary is determined in accordance with the Collective pay agreement's salary scale for other than teaching and research staff. When negotiating the compensation, the applicant's experience, educational and professional merits and the complexity classification of the post are taken into consideration. The job demand level for this position is 8, wherein the total monthly compensation will fall approximately between 2 800-3 400 €, depending on the personal salary component.
