Researchers representing the Sustainable Governance of Natural Resources (SGNR) research area, which is one of the advanced-level, strong research areas of UEF, are internationally recognised especially in the following fields: natural resources regulation, energy law and policy, social-scientific mining research, transnational forest and bioenergy governance, and community impacts of forestry. We are now inviting applications for a tree-year position of Postdoctoral Researcher in social-scientific research on the bioeconomy for the advanced-level, strong research area Sustainable Governance of Natural Resources.
The position is placed either in the Department of Geographical and Historical Studies or the Law School of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, Joensuu Campus, depending on the educational and research profile of the appointee.
The task of the Postdoctoral Researcher is to develop and strengthen multidisciplinary social-scientific research within the SGNR research area. The position supports UEF's top-level international research area Forests, Global Change and Bioeconomy, and cooperation between these two areas. The principal duty of the Postdoctoral Researcher is to complete the research presented in the research proposal. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also participate in the supervision of academic theses in his or her field of research, and give teaching in the field in question. A special task of the Postdoctoral Researcher is to develop his or her own research and, as a member of the research area, to support the research group in project planning and securing additional funding. The Postdoctoral Researcher will focus on the following themes: national and international policy and regulation of the bioeconomy, societal and regional targets, impacts and preconditions of the bioeconomy. Simultaneously, he or she should build linkages between the research activity and the themes of the SNGR such as the relations between natural resources use and climate change, natural resources and green economy/ circular economy and the relations between natural resources governance and development interventions.
According to the UEF Administrative Regulations (30 §), the person to be appointed to the Postdoctoral Researcher position is required to hold a suitable doctoral degree, which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc.
The Postdoctoral Researcher position will be filled for a three-year term beginning on 1 January 2017. Postdoctoral researcher positions are always filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations, Section 30).
Members of the university's teaching and research staff are required to have command of the language they give teaching in, Finnish or Swedish. (The language requirements associated with the position are defined in the Government Decree 770/2009). In the Postdoctoral Researcher position, the language of teaching and research may also be English.
The salary is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart of the teaching and research staff in the salary system for Finnish universities (€2,865.30€/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3 % of the job requirement component.
